Who is it?

Hankook is a company dedicated to making quality tyres. It has distribution in 160 countries to give safety and support to your way of driving. It was created in 1941 in South Korea, by Jae Hun Chung’s grandfather who from the beginning called it Chosun tyres and then changed it to Hankook tyres (1968). 

The company is the 5th most important in the tyre sector and sells more than 102 million tyres a year. In addition to its catalogue, they also make brake pads and batteries. It has great performance in road cars, and a vast history in motorsport. 

The headquarters of their road division is in South Korea, along with its manufacturing facilities. Meanwhile their motorsport division is based in Germany due to the fact that there are many racing championships in Europe.

Formula E

Starting with the 2022 season, Hankook began their involvement with Formula E. For this 9th season, Hankook became the new official tyre supplier for the series. Although it is a big change, the new GEN 3 cars needed to meet certain sustainability, durability, and performance targets, and thus the iON tyre was created. These tyres are made to have excellent performance on track and stability at high speeds at every type of climate that they’ll face during the whole season. 

Benoît Tréluyer is a French driver who has been testing the tyres and was impressed by the durability of these and the efficiency they give to the car. 

The Mexico City E-Prix was held a few days ago where the tyres were put to the test for the first time. Some drivers felt the change, experiencing lack of grip in some corners, yet in terms of warm-up, and handling they have been giving positive feedback. Let's see what happens at the next E-Prix in Diriyah, Saudi Arabia.

The Tyres

As for the tyre We where invited for a press conference and we were surprised at everything that was done to create this piece.

In presence of Mr.Inho Choi  (VP LATAM - Vicepresident of Central and South America) Mr. Felix Martin Kinzer (Director of communications EUR) Mr. Jung Ho Park  (CMO - Director of Marketing) and we get to know more about Hankook tyres, which have won major prizes such as the IF Design Award and the International Design Excellence Award, both highly acclaimed within the automotive world by Germany and the United States.  

The iON, a special tyre made for Formula E, is made exclusively for electric cars since they need greater duration and balance, especially with sports cars that are driven to the limit at different tracks. These tyres are made with almost 30% sustainable materials.

Although they already have a good market in Mexico and Latin America, with this new sponsorship and the tire, they aim to make it more known in the market so that people can have access to the best tires to drive a street car.
