Pascal Wehrlein led André Lotterer in a historic one-two finish for the TAG Heuer Porsche Formula E team in Mexico City, in which both finished with nine seconds ahead of the rest, and both the driver and the team achieved their first victories in the ABB FIA Formula E World Championship.
Porsche drove a perfect race, with Wehrlein leading from Pole Position atJulius Baer and defending himself from the leader of the classification. Edoardo Mortara (ROKiT Venturi Racing), at the start. The pair dropped into the field behind the Swiss-Italian and Jean-Eric Vergne (DS TECHEETAH) for a brief period, but gained a powerful energetic advantage over the rest as they continued to match the pace of the leaders.
In the final 15 minutes, Wehrlein and Lotterer picked their moment, dispatching Vergne and then Mortara to take the lead, and from there the Stuttgart manufacturer dictated both the pace and energy management. Vergne was able to bring the DS home in third position, with his teammate da Costa fighting for fourth position after several skirmishes. Mortara did just enough to retain the World Drivers’ Championship lead with fifth, as the Venturi was more marginal on power than the Porsches and DSs as the race progressed.
Mortara leads the drivers’ standings by five points ahead of De Vries. while Wehrlein has placed third after winning the third race. The time of all the contestants is taken (which, as in all rallies, go in driver and co-driver pairs) and the best time of the last stage is the winner. ❙❘
